WE107

The great State of Florida has seen fit to have people’s car registration expire on their birthday. It’s kind of like the government saying, “Hey, I’m glad you’ve made it through another year. We really hope you have a great day. And by the way, since we’re talking, you owe us some money.” Since my birthday happens to be in September this year, it was time to renew.

For some reason the great state in which I live has also decided that every five years drivers are issued a new license plate. This I don’t understand at all. I mean, I kind of liked my former license plate. AAS9M. It was simple, sort of suggestive, easy to remember. It was great. But no, good ole Florida decided to send me a new one and, let me tell you, it’s no AAS9M.

Lame new plate.

My lame new plate.

That’s right, I am now the proud owner of WE107. It sounds like a lame adult contemporary radio station. “Welcome back to WE 107, your home for today’s light rock. Here’s the latest from John Tesh. We hope you enjoy it.” Needless to say I’m not exactly thrilled about my new plate, nor am I exactly sure why it makes sense to send a new one.

Got a plate number better than mine? Let me know in the comments.

This is exactly the reason why I no longer drive anything with 4 wheels.
People seem to get excited over the lamest things when it comes to their cars.
Of course, there is also the possibility that I’m just being bitter (I ride a scooter).

The 3M reflective coating only lasts for five years, so the state replaces them. Also, the state can charge people who really want to keep the same tag by making them get a personalized one.

I guess that’s a practical reason for the five year lifespan.

“Since my birthday happens to be in September this year, it was time to renew.”

Does your birthday jump from month to month every year? ;)

I actually think that WE 107 might be an easier-to-remember plate than AAS9M, but I suppose they’ll both become memorable sooner or later.

Also, try “We won ‘07.”

I think it’s really weird that the state makes you replace them. I’ve never replaced a license plate in my entire life, and I’ve been driving for double-digits now. I guess Oregon just does things differently (we are forbidden to pump our own gas as well, which is just fine with me).
And I’ve never had an interesting license plate number. My current one is 925 CSW, so nothing special there.

Wait, you can’t pump your own gas in Oregon?
