Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld… why?

September 4, 2008 | Justin

Ok, so I don’t even know what to do with this. Jerry Seinfeld was tipped to be the new spokesperson for Microsoft. I guess they wanted to combat the very clever Mac vs. PC ads that Apple has been running for a few years now. I like Jerry Seinfeld, I even liked the HP commercial he did last summer, but this… well, let’s just say I don’t have a clue what the point is nor how it’s supposed to sell Windows. In fact, I don’t really know what to say about it. I’m kind of dumbfounded that such a large, and at times brilliant, company could think this made sense:

Maybe I’m not seeing this right. Maybe my Apple love has blinded me. Maybe. What do you think? Does this commercial make a bit of sense to you? Let me know in the comments.

I think this commercial is great. I don’t see what it has to do with anything computer-related, but it made me laugh and it has churros, so it’s automatically better than the PC/Mac commercials, which don’t make me laugh and have 0% churro content.

Also, I wish that I could have gotten a job at an ad firm convincing multinational corporations that I’ve got these really funny ideas that will sell loads of software/hardware/etc., and then just make something that makes me laugh.

The problem is that they’re trying to advertise an operating system that has been written up and down as being too stiff and unaccepting as moist and chewy. Pardon me, but until Mrs. Fields…err, Microsoft puts something out that doesn’t have all the negative press, I don’t think they can go with that image.

And I don’t think it’ll be no more than a week before somebody adds that little “adjustment” at the end of the ad to some music video much in the same way Ballmer ended up with a techno remix. “Bill Gates Shakes Booty To (insert song here).” Yep.

Yeah, uh… what? No, your Apple love has not blinded you. I’ve never used a Mac, and I think this commercial is teh suck.

However, I do have to agree that the churros are a nice touch.
