Mac Users Do It For Charity
December 11, 2006 |
In an earlier article I talked up MacHeist and how great the game has been. In the five weeks since MacHeist started a total of 17 applications have been given away for free with a value of over $250. Well, although the sixth and final heist doesn’t come out until the middle of this week, today marks the start MacHeist’s being finale. At 9am EST this morning the “final bundle” went on sale.
The MacHeist final bundle is a collection of ten Mac shareware applications that show off the vast offering of Mac applications designed by independent developers. The list of applications includes Apple Design Award winners among winners of various other related awards. The total value of the final bundle is $288.75 but MacHeist is offering the complete bundle, this week only, for $49. The bundle includes Delicious Library, FotoMagico, Shape Shifter, DEVONthink, Disco, Rapid Weaver, iClip, One Pangea Game, NewsFire, and TextMate.
If all the applications for an extreme fraction of the retail price wasn’t good enough, MacHeist and the developers have agreed to donate 25% of each bundle sold to one of eight charities. When purchasing a bundle you can select which charity you want your donation to go to, or you can elect to spread the donation over all eight charities.
This follows the huge move some members of the Mac developer community recently made when they donated every penny made from sales of their software on December 7th to Child’s Play Charity.
I’ll be honest and say that I may only ever use half of the applications contained in the final bundle, but I was one of the first 40 people to purchase a bundle none-the-less for two reasons: it’s a complete steal and I was able to donate 25% of the purchase price to the AIDS Research Alliance.
If you own a Mac and want some sweet software and want to support a great cause, I suggest you check out the MacHeist final bundle.
