Peacekeeping Force? Ha!
June 24, 2003 |
Ok kids, it’s time for me to get political once again. I’m going to warn you, a lot of you probably wont agree or condone what I’m about to say. But you know, I don’t really care because after all, I’m the one fronting the bill for this site–not you. So there is you’re warning. What am I going to talk about this time? Well, let me take a few minutes to hit up the Middle East.
That’s right, the Middle East–the war torn, political hotbed that hasn’t really been safe for many years. As all of you know, I’m sure, we went to war in Iraq not to long ago with the idea of unseating Saddam Hussein. Anyway, fast forward a few months to where we are now–an American lead occupation force in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now I know it’s not technically an occupation force, it’s a “Peacekeeping Force” but face the facts people, we’re occupying the countries because the people can’t do it themselves.
We’re trying to set up police and public works in Iraq, you know, so that way we can give the country back to a “government of their choosing” in the future–it’s the humanitarian thing to do and I agree with this idea. However, here is where we find the first problem. The Iraqis don’t want to lift a finger. Half the country says we need to do more, the other half says we need to leave, yet no one seems to want to help. Ok, so if their not helping rebuild THEIR country, what are the people of Iraq doing post Saddam? It’s simple, their shooting at Americans.
Ok, ok. So no, not every Iraqi shoots at Americans, but it sure as hell seems like they do. Just about every single day reports come in of another American wounded or killed because of an attack. I mean, last week Iraqis shot at an American Army ambulance and killed a soldier for gods sake. So we’ve got lawlessness running amuck in Iraq and thousands of soldiers over there to “keep the peace.” Does anyone else see the irony in this?
So we (America) sent over this guy Paul Brimmer to run the reshaping of Iraq. Well, if you ask me, I don’t think this guy is doing a very good job. You would think that after all the lessons America has learned the hard way–Somalia, September 11th, etc–this guy would have a little different idea of “keeping the peace.” I’ll hand it to him, he tried. He attempted a weapons amnesty with the hopes that all these Iraqi citizens would simply hand over their rocket-propelled grenades and AK-47s. Needless to say, it didn’t exactly work.
By now you’re probably thinking, what’s this guys point? I mean he’s ranting on and on here about what is going on over there but it doesn’t seem like he has a real opinion. Well I do and here’s where it gets dirty. Obviously our “Peacekeepers” are not doing enough to, well, keep the peace. I’ve always thought that the best way to assert authority is through power and this is what we need to do in Iraq. In Somalia (1993) we learned that in order to survive, sometimes you have to kill and kill without prejudice. Well boys and girls, maybe we should heed this lesson. Let’s assert our authority over there. It’s not like the people of Iraq don’t know that we have the ability to do so; I mean who doesn’t know that America has the most powerful military machine in the world? What it all comes down to is that the Iraqi people aren’t exactly afraid of American troops because they know that we won’t fire unless fired upon. So what does this mean? Well pockets of resistance won’t hesitate to fire an RPG into a crowd of American soldiers.
Here’s my point, if I were in charge of the “Peacekeeping Force” I would allow my men to fire upon anything suspicious. And you know, if that mean’s killing some people before we know for sure that they’re a threat, so be it. What will this accomplish? Well, people will think twice–over time–about planning an attack on American forces over there and, hopefully–over a long time–against America in general. Is it moral? No, but you know, it’s not like the Iraqis are dealing with morals. It’s not like the terrorists who flew planes into buildings were dealing with morals. We need to wake up and step out of this Political Correct bubble we live in and bust some ass.
I mean we basically run this world; this is not an opinion, this is a fact. The UN, the essential governing body of the world, evidently doesn’t have the authority to stop America–we learned this when the UN cowardly refused to take action against Iraq and then did nothing to stop us as we took action ourselves. Anyway, we run this planet so I think that its about time we stop being the kindly substitute teacher allowing the class to get out of hand and turn into the knuckle beating Catholic Nun whom all the kids are terrified of–because if everyone is afraid to act against us due to the possible consequences, then well, maybe the “Peacekeeping Force” will actually get to do their job. And not to steal Dennis Miller’s words, but this is just my opinion and I could be wrong.
