Movie Mania

Today I only had one class so I pretty much bummed around all day long. The result: a lot of Gamecube and a few movies. One of the movies I was watching was Back to the Future Part III, the one where Marty returns to the Wild West to prevent Doc’s death. Doc, of course, ends up in the old west because at the end of Part II, when Doc Brown is trying to pick up Marty in 1955 so they can return to 1985, Doc and the Delorian get struck by lightning sending him back to 1865. Amway, at the beginning of Part III Marty tells Doc he came back because Doc is supposed to be killed in just a few days. Marty hands Doc his obituary and Doc. The obituary mentions that Doc leaves behind his beloved Clara. As everyone knows, well not everyone cause there are some people who live under rocks and whom don’t watch movies, that Doc ends up falling in love and marrying Clara. Well, this got me thinking.
Back to the Future

If you already know what is going to happen in the future, would you try and make that happen so that it causes your future to work out right? I mean, its kind of like horoscopes. We all know that horoscopes are so general and vague that no matter what happens throughout the day it’ll fulfill the horoscope. If someone handed me a piece of paper that said I was going to fall in love with so and so in the future and then later I met so and so, I think I would think to myself, well this is it, I’m going to fall in love with this person. Now who’s to say that if I hadn’t received said piece of paper and still later met so and so that I wouldn’t still fall in love with that person. But what if I didn’t? Would that mean that I only fell in love with the girl because the paper said I would? Who’s to know? Now in the movie we know that Doc falls in love with Clara before he knows who she is so it’s a little bit of a different story. But still, just think about it.
Mulholland Dr

Now another movie I watched today got me thinking as well, this one however, about the movie itself. The movie? David Lynch’s Mulholland Dr. If you haven’t seen it, and chances are you have not, I suggest you rent it. It’s really a good movie. Word of warning though, you might need to watch it a few times before it makes sense. The first time I saw it, Mulholland pretty much blew my mind. Well maybe not “blew” per se, but rather drove me crazy. It tends to do that to people. Friends that were here watching the movie for the first time went through pretty much the same thing I did. They went crazy. However, this being my second viewing, the movie made sense… well a little bit of sense actually. I’m not going to give any plot descriptions or any other information on Mulholland Dr for that matter because it is best to watch it for the first time with out any information at all. Just know that it is really a good movie and that David Lynch is a genius.
Ok, well that’s enough ranting about movies for now. Go to Blockbuster and rent some stuff. Be a bum, it’s good for the soul!
