Well to those who don’t know me, my name is Blake and I went to Boone. Currently I am attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the upstanding moral community of Daytona Beach, FL. This is my first entry into this little web party so I’m talk a little bit about what I have learned about College and about Daytona Beach in particular. First and foremost College is not nearly as hard as everybody makes it out to be (ie. teachers, counselors, whatever). I really don’t understand why people of authority consistantly over estimate things. Every year through school the teacher explains the death of your weekend and social life as some sort of preperation for things to come, but it they were actually nearly as bad as they make it out to be then we be going to school 24/7 and age 60 years by the time we graduate. I once read somewhere that if you did good in highschool you will probably do good in college. I have found this to be true in my own case and I attempt to explain it as not only a function of intelligence but more as what kind of will we have to succeed. I have about a 3.3 will to succed. Although when it comes down to actual workload, I find it pretty much the same, but with an increased amount of time to do it. Which leads me to another point. WHEN DID I GET SO LAZY!!!! I don’t think I have ever been this lazy in my entire life. Last semester I actually asked somebody to come turn of the light in the room I was in cause I was laying on the couch. I guess thats where the freshmen 15 come into play. It’s extremely hard to eat healthy while living in a dorm, not to mention loose wieght. So to say the least College has been quite the eye opening expierence but in a different way than expected in highschool. I couldn’t wait to goto all the cools parties and get drunk. Well I realized that hanging around with 50 other people drunk isn’t exactly my thing. Tried the clubbing seen (dear god shoot me). I find my nights much more fulfilling watching a movie or going out to eat with friends. Now I could blame all this on the fact that I am I horrible dancer and talking to people I don’t know isn’t my forte, but I instead would rather like to blame it on Daytona Beach. Daytona Beach is famous all over, as the best spring break place there is, well unfortunately spring break is less than a month. Let me get you a little inside on the rest of the year. Daytona is a beach version of Bithlo (a white trash paradise). Location is key, right up the road from the (redneck riveria), where I4 hits 95. The beaches are beatiful if you don’t mind the bums that live under the pier or the board walk which resemble a nightmare carnival. This is the only place I’ve been where there are 3 night clubs and 3 strip clubs all on the same block. I have never seen so many adult entertainment venue’s so tightly packed together, but wait lets take it up/down a notch(depending on your view) with Volusia counties extremely lax rules. You know what the means. FULL NUDITY. So we have a bunch of rednecks with free rein on what they can and cannot take off. (NO ME GUSTA but that another article). Well maybe I’m not really giving Daytona Beach the props it deservers, I mean theres always NASCAR.
